Wurzelbacher just called for the assassination of an elected U.S Senator. Keith Olbermann makes it clear that this is at least an immoral statement or might just be illegal. Why is Wurzelbacher able to incite his followers to murder a U.S. Senator?
“Earlier this week on his radio show, Michael Savage vowed to post pictures and other ‘pertinent information’ about the staff of watchdog group Media Matters for America. In a statement during his radio show today he appeared to back off, saying only that an unidentified person was researching publicly available information such as the group’s tax filings. Non-profit organizations must file IRS form 990 and are available for public inspection.”
“Right wing talker Michael Savage vowed yesterday during his broadcast that he will retaliate against media watchdog Media Matters for America by posting pictures and “pertinent information” about the organization’s staff on his website. He made the comment almost in passing during one of his infamous rants, but did not explain what he expected his followers known as the “Savage Nation” to do with the information.”
Ed Schultz host of the Ed Show on MSNBC, June 24, 2009:
“A U.S. judge has denied bail to a white supremacist blogger and Internet radio host accused of threatening to kill three federal judges in Chicago who refused to overturn local bans on handguns.”
“Hal Turner, New Jersey’s top white supremacist Internet-radio show hosting lunatic is back in the news today, for pretty much the same reason he was in the news threatening public officials with bodily harm, and subsequently getting arrested for it!”
Keith Olbermann, host of MSNBC’s Countdown has come up with a sensible way to deal with hate speech in public venues. Olbermann’s website says, “Countdown’s Keith Olbermann asks people to “quarantine” Fox News Channel and its hateful incitements against abortion, which he contends contributed at least in part to the death of Dr. George Tiller.”
Putting this proposal into practice is actually quite easy as I discovered during a recent visit to Minneapolis. The limited choices available on the cable television provided at the hotel chain where I’d booked accommodations was dominated by Fox Sports, Fox News not to mention the local Fox affiliate. With that many Fox selections, it begs the question of whether this hotel chain gets free cable. Due to the serious lack of channel choices, presumably, hotel management assumes that guests spend a minimal amount of time viewing in-room television. Otherwise, they would offer more than all Fox all the time. Let the quarantine begin!
What a perfect opportunity to test Olbermann’s recommendation. I informed hotel management of my displeasure with the plethora of Fox channels, the lack of suitable alternatives and especially the unavailability of MSNBC. Judging from the reaction I received, this wasn’t the first complaint the hotel received. Surprise, surprise.
Media Matters for America has put together a YouTube video with clips of hate speech from the far right pundits. Yet more examples of why Olbermann’s quarantine effort is a worthwhile endeavor.
Self described “man of God” Pastor Wiley Drake prays for the death of President Obama. Is this another instance of right wing fringe actions based in self hatred toward others? Is this another attempt to incite a deranged lunatic to murder an innocent human being?
The hate rhetoric is ratcheted up by right wing anti-abortion activist Randall Terry and other right wing extremists. By mispronouncing high court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor’s name, Terry stoops to a new low. His actions bring him dangerously close to crossing the line from activist to domestic terrorist.
Randal Terry: “If you confirm Judge Sotomayor, the blood of the babies that will die because of her rulings is on your hands”
Prepare to be troubled after listening to Premiere Radio Networks Randi Rhodes’ interview with Randall Terry. Randi pulls no punches in this no holds barred exchange and refuses to back down. Thank you Randi!! For someone who claims to be a Christian, Terry’s screed regurgitates a tirade of hateful nonsense.
Randi Rhodes
Randall Terry said, “as far as hate speech is concerned, hatred can be a really good thing”
Is this what Jesus would say? After Terry apparently hung up on Rhodes he called her back to further abuse her and her audience. Let’s not forget, this kind of hateful rhetoric culminated with the death of Dr. George Tiller. Randal Terry would be entertaining were it not for the fact he seems to be completely out of control.
The strangest part of this entire interview was at the end when Terry used a prolonged unintelligible vocalization. Does anyone know what that was intended to convey?
Please return to this blog next week when Nancy Gene weighs in and sheds some light on how men can virtually put an end to abortion simply by taking responsibility for their actions.
